Please Keep an Eye out for Loons on Winnipesaukee!
Since ice in was officially declared yesterday, we at the Loon Preservation Committee want to take the opportunity to ask anyone who may be snowmobiling at Winnipesaukee within the next few weeks to keep an eye out for loons that might have become iced in. In recent years, we have found that some loons have been delaying their migration to the ocean. When they wait too long, they risk becoming iced in, which puts them in danger of starvation or predation by eagles or other predators. Just yesterday, we rescued a juvenile loon from Spofford Lake in Keene.
If you are out and see a loon on the lake, please call us at the Loon Center at (603)476-5666 or email field@loon.org so that we can come out and rescue it. Thank you! |
