Backpacking Overnights for L'il Buddy
Hi! Overnight backpacking trip suggestions wanted for me--an overnight suburban dad--and my 7-year-old buddy. We did Mt. Chocorua last year--and will again--but need more options. Interesting trails, nice views, not too far (4-5 mile days). Thanks!

AMC has dozens of good deals, and cheap rates at lodges and huts if you want a roof.

If you don't have it yet, the AMC White Mtn Guide is a great resource. I would study the included maps looking for candidate hikes and then read the trail descriptions. As noted maybe a hike up to a hut for a night and then out would be a great intro.

We've got all the gear--and, frankly, the huts are no longer "cheap"--so I'm more interested in tenting options.
I had an old AMC guide that I ended up tossing--if I remember correctly, the maps didn't tag distances so it was a pain to plan. Are they still unlabeled? Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk |

You may want to consider Mt. Waternomee. Have some fun researching WW2 history with your buddy before you go and then do the hike. He can share his history lesson next fall at his school with photos and facts by doing a show and tell. There are many sites you can google to become familiar with the story. Here is one. http://www.hikenewengland.com/Watern...rash070916.php
