I got a call this morning from the "parent company" of Wolfeboro Power Equipment to inform me that a parts order would not be fulfilled because they had decided to close the business.
No surprise, given their longstanding customer service problems - but since KT out at Trites closed, there's no local lawnmower/snowblower sales/service in existence anymore. Must be another sign of the economic recovery. |

You can probably find the part you need online. I think the internet has been a huge challenge for local parts suppliers (and retailers in general).

Who is the parent company that you talked to?

Well, the guy on the phone said he was calling from MA, and that he represented the parent company of WPE.
Pretty oddball for a prank call. |

I think there was a misunderstanding about what he was telling you. Maybe he said or meant the parent company of the part you were looking for...maybe.

Just talked to someone on the phone. OUT OF BUSINESS - CLOSED.
No sales - they're loading the stuff on a truck to "go back to the warehouse", trying to figure out what to do with repair jobs in the store now. |

This is too bad.
I am not an engine guy in any shape whatsoever, but with all the outside service business in Wolfeboro and the surrounding area it would seem to me that this would be a great opportunity for someone to step in and fill the void. |

I just bought a chainsaw from them thinking, support local and receive local service. They gave me no inkling whatsoever that they were closing. I guess I made a mistake. Where's the nearest Stihl dealer now?

Closest Stihl dealer may now be North Country Tractor on Rt. 16 in Ossipee. They are great and have a terrific service department. I tried a local Stihl dealer across from the Laconia Airport a couple of years ago for a service problem on my new leaf blower and they actually broke it more. So North Country is the place to go in my opinion. Very professional people.

I have been using Lakeport Power Equipment in Lakeport/Laconia on Mechanics Street, for all of my small engine work, from Husqvarna Chain Saw, Craftsman Lawn Mowers, to John Deere Rider Mower.
Keinan is fair and knowledgeable. Tel # 527-0940. Hope this helps, Bill |

Wednesday is half-price rental day at Rand's Hardware in Plymouth, and they have a lot of rental items, plus Rand's carries a big variety of Stihl chainsaws and other Stihl gas powered items.

I wonder why they wouldn't simply finish the repair jobs on hand?

Chain saws don't require very much long as your reasonably careful with it. You'll run into chain sharpening but there's some other places around that can handle that. Keep it drained of all fluids when it's going to sit around for any length of time, probably longer than a month. I run my Husky right out of gas when putting it away. Probably ten years old now runs like the day I bought it except for some sharpenings now and then it's needed nothing.

One note, I have read that running your small engines out of gas is not recommended any longer due to the ethanol drying out the seals. Most shops sell pre-mixed ethanol free gas, I use that for storage now. |

Surprise, surprise....
Wolfeboro Power has been run/owned by Boston Lawn Mower which is owned by Donald Satterfield - the same Satterfield that closed Wolfeboro Airport in a failed development attempt resulting in bankruptcy... Several local service providers were left unpaid for services provided while he hid from creditors and abused the bankruptcy process... Thank goodness WPE is closed! |
