If you're in the mood for Thai, try the Siam Orchid on the corner across from the state house and the Holiday Inn. We've never been disappointed there. Also, their dining room has an odd/amusing tilt to it, which always puts me in a good mood.

I'd also second the motion on the Puritan Backroom. Interesting place, that always seems lively - even later when most places are closing up.
