Just spun down to check out Glendale. Probably going to be an end of the week launch at this point for me. Still plenty of ice in Smith Cove and the marina.

Everything blew out around Rattlesnake overnight. Still ice in all ports except for the Weirs, it’s going to be a bit…

Last freezing night in the ten day forecast is Sunday. Thursday is forecast to get near 70F with a bit of a breeze to stir things up. Hopefully won't be long.

We looked at Glendale at 1 pm today, the SW airflow had moved the ice away a bit. Dave Farley had launched his boat and got out, probably with a lot of ice contact.

Smith cove is mostly ice but starting to open a bit. Our Eastern is 3rd from the end of covered slips at Fay's. The 1st two have splashed. Ours is next. Now just need an ice breaker in Smith Cove.

Saw two boats launching this morning in Moultonborough on the Harilla Landing webcam. Looks like clear water out to some of the islands (Little Bear, Cow, Ragged).

I had to do that from the " gas dock " at Gilford Yacht Club years ago in the pontoon...was noisy as hell, but we made it!

Default Glendale

Just came from Glendale and it’s launch-able unless the wind moves more ice in. I was very tempted to drop the boat in but figured I’ll wait one more day…The island will still be there!

Alton Bay is still locked in from the mouth of the bay all the way to the bandstand.

Went by Lake Wentworth and that is completely locked in still.

Lilly Pond is still locked in… I think ice out will be declared on Winni and Lilly Pond will still have ice!

What a weird year for sure!

Dan

PIG, I assume you launched out of Sheps/Goodhue? You mentioned ice....is there just a little ice around or is most of the west side of Bear still iced in?

The west side, Bear Island, water is mostly ice free down the center while the shorelines have weak gray ice that will fast disappear back to water.

Check out the Bear Island cam shot that looks to the south.

Default Glendale / Smith Cove

As of this morning Glendale is wide open!! Smith cove still somewhat locked in. The East shoreline of the cove is somewhat open and passable, the Fay's side is not, probably be another day or two before boats can get out of Fays...

I left from Y-Landing, and cut through the ice on the southwest side of Pine. There is still significant ice between the Neck and the west side of Bear, but hopefully with some rain and wind it will break up fast!

Default Smith Cove

For those at Fays, Smith Cove was still mostly iced in this morning. The ice has shifted making the Eastern shoreline (opposite Fays) un-passable, it will probably be passable late this afternoon but I don't see Fays passable for another day or two...

Did you notice if Gilford Yacht Club is clear yet? I haven't been north of our place since Sunday evening. Boats are ready for launch.

Alton Bay looked largely unchanged this morning. Still ice from Loon Cove/ 11-D headed south to about 100' north of the bandstand.

It wasn't yesterday morning but I didn't look close this morning. I will check for you and report back.

I talked to Dave this morning, he said that Center Harbor still is quite thick, he is thinking it could be another 7-10 days for official ice out.

For me, once Gilford Yacht Club and Smith Cove are clear its ice-out for me!

Big change since 9am, Alton Bay is clear all the way down. The last remnants of slush are pushed up against the eastern shore just up from Downings. That will be gone today.

We were at Fay's at about 2 PM today. The strong west wind has pushed the Smith Cove ice sheet to the narrow east end of the cove so that the ice met shore on both sides. Driving up Varney Point Road and looking down, we did not notice and breaks in the ice sheet. While the wind might break it up and blow it out today, that looks doubtful for today.

The Eastern has been winterized and is ready to go, thanks Jeff. But I would say we have less than 10% chance of getting out of the cove tomorrow.

Just drove by Center Harbor again, looks about 90 % clear now. Just ice at the inlet being pushed by the wind.

Gilford Yacht Club is clear but Smith Cove is still impassable. I drove over to the Varney Point side to see if there was a channel along shore but the ice was right up to the docks.

Default Smith Cove

As of 8 AM today Smith Cove was still closed to exit or entrance. The ice sheet is still at the docks on both sides.

That's why Ice out is meaningless. If you were trying to launch at 19 mi Bay or libby museum today you couldn't get anywhere.
