Like many of you, who chose your nickname from your boat or a motorcycle etc., I also took my nickname from my car.
Back in May, 1969, for my birthday, before my junior year of college, (Belknap College ) my parents bought me a turquoise, Mercury Cougar convertible with a white top. What a beautiful car! When I showed up on campus, driving all around Center Harbor, everybody started calling me Susie Cougar.

(My first name is Susan)

I was afraid of that too.I’m glad you posed the question because
back in the 1960s, when I was given that nickname, the definition of cougar was only an animal, not how we think of the name now. I’m glad I had a chance to prove myself because I am anything but.😇
Steve, This is a fun post.

Maybe an avatar with a photo of the Cougar with an inscription something like "My '69 Cougar".

I am old enough to remember when the Merc Cougar came out in '67 however many here likely never heard of the car.

LOL- I had to call up my son first and ask him what an avatar is! Being able to post on this forum is about my highest level of computer ability.

If someone would like to find a picture and surreptitiously put me in it with the Cougar, that would be fine with me.

I am waiting for you to tell us where you got your nickname.

XINGU – are you a member of that tribe in Brazil, if you are, please post a picture.
Or did you take a vacation and paddle down the XINGU river?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Indeed—a photo of Edith Wharton, writer of my favorite short story "Xingu."

For the literature lovers, give it a go—I think you'll find that it reads swimmingly yet is sometimes hard to fathom.

Shortly after moving here, I became involved in the ancient sport of curling. I slide rocks down the ice...

What gave you the urge to pick up curling?

I always found it interesting, and the opportunity presented itself when a handful of people organized a league in Wolfeboro not too long after we moved here. It was a great way to connect with people, being new to the area; I made some great friends, and it is a pretty addictive game when you get into it. Seven years later and still at it.
