Interesting story...the property manager of the camp next door was actually an old friend of mine. The camp's owner rarely came out so my friend and his family spent a lot of time there..we frequently shared drinks and campfires. One night, we were discussing our design ideas for the fireplace, and I talked about needing a mantel. He told me he was restoring an old farm in Stratham, and that he probably had what I was looking for. We found an old beam that was perfect for the project, plus some 200 year old oak for trim work. My wife and I brought the old wood back to life and I installed it, then had a mason come in to do the stone work. When it was completed, I took pictures of the fireplace to show him his contribution...he was thrilled with how it turned out!
2 years ago, while undergoing routine surgery, my friend passed away. The doctors were unable to revive him. We miss him so much, but are reminded of him every time we look at that fireplace!
