My heart goes out to the owner. Winni is a very unforgiving lake, The captain needs to be so very much aware of nav markers each and every minute.

FOR THE RECORD -

I have seen a "dust up" over another post in Social Media (iBoat) over pictures & statements posted.

First & foremost, I am NOT that poster.

Second, should any of my pic's in this thread wind up in the media (newspapers, etc.) it is WITHOUT my authorization!!

I posted these as the event was "public" knowledge and I feel it serves as a good warning to all us boaters of what can happen...……….

Again, with 10 aboard, this could have had a VERY different ending …….. thankfully - it did not!


As stated above, the owner recently spent a tremendous amount restoring this craft & I feel for him.

Maybe people should just mind their own business. If the owner of the boat wants to post pictures of his boat, then why don't you let him!! How would you like it if you had an ACCIDENT and people posted you all over social media?? Mind your own business!! And for the record... I do not know this guy!

We regularly, and respectfully, dissect lake mishaps, errors, tragedies. It's important for community learning. If the owner has been mistreated elsewhere, that's not on us

Well thank god you are there to educate everyone that the lake is low.... pictures of a damaged boat wasn't really needed for that was it now.

The lake is only 4” lower than normal for this time of year. Based on the pics, I really don’t think an extra 4” would have helped much...

You are being most charitable toward waterskir. The reason I object to his curmudgeonly remarks toward some forum members is that most of them care deeply what happens to others, and I have personally had the benefit of their suggestions on many occasions. To Watrskir: Your posts are off the mark! Everyone that posted was respectful and sympathetic towards the owner. There is nothing here to be concerned about.

We have all learned a lot from this website including the lessons learned from the accidents of others. I think the information posted on this site has made many of us better boaters and helped to further a sense of community on the lake. It's all good!

I agree that we all learn a lot from the Forum however, I personally would not want pictures of any mishap that happened to me posted on here regardless of what it "teaches" anyone. I think it puts the involved parties in an awkward position, they have enough to deal with the incident itself.

I agree, even understanding best intentions and sympathies from all, it would only make the matter that much worse for me knowing everyone else sees the details in such vivid and up close pictures.

Not condemning anyone here, just saying if this were me, I would prefer the intimate details of damage done to the boat not be broadcast to the world.

I think its enough for any of us who love our boats (and all boats) to say this is a heartbreaking event for the owner.

Waterskir - the answer to your question is an easy one for me - "If there was something to be learned and gained from it - by all means".

The point of my last post was to make clear that this Forum was the ONLY place where I have posted as I have since seen it pop up elsewhere.

I think after the repairs are made to the hull, shafts, struts, and props the larger issue may be the interior. The water in the boat rose above the engines and actually floated the cabin floorboards. It may take a while to figure out everything that the water damaged and come up with a repair plan.

At least it wasn't in June or July and he got the season to use the boat. At this point they will have all winter to make the repairs. As Phantom said, it is nice that no one was hurt.

That’s a shame....I saw the transformation of that boat from the time the restoration started at Miles facility. It took forever and a tremendous amount of time and money was spent. I would be sick if that was my boat... glad everyone is OK but still a heartbreaking shame for the owner...

Yes I don't believe getting the boat back sea worthy is going to be an issue. However time and money are another subject all together. Its not like there are many shops that boat will slip into, to be working on it through the winter. And then of course if insurance is involved that can get problematic too....

All in All I am glad that everyone is reported as OK that was on the boat. And that they got the boat back to shore and out of the water without to much trouble.
