Me too...honestly. I think it’s a silly rule. There is certainly an advantage to being seen absolutely rather than another boat missing your little red/green lights in a scenario like approaching The Wiers at full dark...the shore lights blind you!
In total darkness the little red/green lights and white are adequate.
