Boat/Trailer Tie Down straps

I'm have constant issues with the Boat to Trailer Tie Down straps.
These are the ratchet type, that connect from stern eye bolts to rear of trailer, I hate them ! There must be a better solution ?

The ratchet type straps give me no problems tightening, but when I want to release them to remove before launching the boat, they ALWAYS give me issues, and don't ever seem to release easy !

Am I doing something wrong, or is there a better product.

I got a new pair at Parafunalia in Gilford and they work pretty well. They are not ratchet type, they simply fold over. The hold is very strong. May want to stop in there sometime if in the area.

The narrow ones I have used were difficult to disengage. On ones a bit wider and the release handle is easier to grip and use.

Bass Pro Shops has some wide handle ones. They are not cheap.

I have this type also. They work great and have rubber pads to protect the boat finish. I have the ratchet strap on my Jet ski and I'm about to throw it in the lake!

Bigdog, Are you opening them up all the way (180 degrees) when you are trying to loosen them? You need to pull up on the trigger on the handle and open them all they way up (where they will loock open) to make them freewheel. Then pull up on the same trigger to fold them back up and start the tightening process. If they are stiff, oil them.

Get these. Or something of this style- these are probably the same ones from an above post. Rear tie downs are designed to keep the boat down on the trailer from moving- not so much from falling off- so you don't need to have them so tight they can't be removed. That's where your safety chain comes in. This style is what you need.

Along this same line, are you able to pull the the handle back far enough to release the tension? If not perhaps you can slide the ratchet device down (or up) further so you have that extra space to release it.

I went to Parafunalia in Gilford and bought the same type straps, and very pleased with how easy these work, like night & day from ratchet type !
