Does anyone have any tips/tricks/suggestions for keeping the algae from growing on some Trex steps that are in the water?

Mine aren't "Trex" but they are composite and what I do before putting them in in the spring is to clean them thoroughly with isopropyl, brush on an adhesive promoting primer, then stick these on...http://www.amazon.com/Safe-Way-Tract...ip+stair+tread
The ones in the water will last at least one season, the ones that have a chance to dry will go a couple seasons anyway. Without the primer they won't stay on at all... Dan

Power wash it, I have PT lumber and generally I power wash them every other year. Just be careful not to hit them too hard.....

On similar surfaces that are immersed, I find that I just have to use a coarse scrub brush on a handle to loosen/remove the algae. Immersion makes the growth soft and easily scrubbed off. But immersion also means the film grows back over the summer, although slowly. When you feel the slipperiness underfoot, you know it's time to scrub again. It takes but a few minutes, so it's something you can do several times over the season without thinking about how long it takes.
