Fix-It Man/Wood Stove Repair

Instead of repainting maybe just a good wire brushing and then some stove black to make it look new again.

Here is a picture of the stove. It has a sleeve around it attached with rivets and screws (a number of the latter I suspect will break off and need to be tapped out) which needs to be removed so the box can be cleaned and painted. Paint the sleeve, rep[air the door and reassemble. If I was any good at spray painting and had a sand blaster and some taps could probably do it my self but... I am not, and do not so can't.

I've been the owner of three wood stoves: one is marked with the date of its casting—1873. My newest cast iron wood stove weighs 600 pounds. (!)

One well-used cast iron wood stove from the 1970s unexpectedly burned through the backside. So, first I'd check on your stove to see if it's worth the effort and expense of a repair.

I agree: even with spray paint especially designed for this job, repainting is probably not a good idea. As soon as the stove reaches certain high temperatures, you could get weeks of "burning-paint odors".

(Ask me how I know).
