I got my PPL in June 1988. The TOTAL cost to get my PRIVATE Pilot license...including the price of a David Clark Aviation Headset was about $5600. My training spanned about 6 months.
In those days, the airplane (1973 Cessna 172) cost about $69 per hour..WET..that means fuel was included. The flight instructor was about $25 per hour. Today I did some research at the airport where I got my PPL. (KUUU) Newport, RI. NOW: The plane rental is $65 per hour. The plane is a Clunky 1970 Piper Cherokee 140. 100LL Fuel NOT included. Fuel cost ..$6.35 per gallon. That plane probably burns 8 GPH. The flight instructor is $117/hour. Results may vary. ....NB |
