I think this has been posted before.

I was there. I got hit in the butt by a bayonet (?) while being forced to get out of the car as they cleared the streets. As I got out I bent over to pick up the contents of my spilled pocketbook and that is when he hit me. I had a huge black and blue. I don't know if I was ever so scared in my live. We had to run as they cleared and we didn't know where to run to. They wouldn't let us drive away in the car. As we ran there were firecrackers going off everywhere, you didn't know where to step.

We had missed most of the rioting as we arrived late and didn't realize what was going on. We arrived as the National Guard was coming down the street and thought we could just wait in the car 'til they moved through. Oh no!!

I posted this before, but maybe it wasn't allowed.

I wasn't a rebel then, Lakes, I was too young. But I am now.

We were scared sl, too, barefoot. But the National Guard had trapped our car and we had no way to leave. We asked them if we could just drive away, but they wouldn't let us, they made us (all 4 of us) get out. That is when I got hit. I was in the backseat. Ever tried to get out of the backseat of a VW Bug in a hurry? We ran to the end of the street-we had to, the Guard was doing the sweep. I remember somebody let me sit in his car-he was a Boston cop. I felt liked he was my guardian angel at the time. It was really scary. I wondered if I would ever get home.

We saw none of that. Since it was bike weekend, we decided to take a ride over and check it out. All the stuff you saw was all over when we got there and we didn't know what had happened. We did think it was funny that there were almost no cars and the place looked almost empty so we parked and then saw the Guard coming down the street. We had no idea what was going on so decided to sit there and watch. Well, the Guard had other ideas---

That is funny, I was there also in the back of a VW bug with my parents. We were in laconia at the catholic church on union ave when a large amount of bikers stopped at a red light and several got off their bikes a tipped over a parked VW bug, and we were parked 3 cars behind it. We did not bother to stay for mass, we just wanted to get out while we could. I was about 11 yo but remember it well.
