Combine that with the all out assault on the very Christian principals this country was founded on, this I'm afraid is the result.

Heartfelt sympathies to the families affected.
While I agree with what you are saying in a broad general sense, I must completely disagree that any of those factors you mentioned had anything to do with this senseless massacre. This kid did not do this because he played violent video games, listened to hip hop music or because religious principles were taken out of school...this kid had serious psychological issues as well as "aspergers" disorder that were well known to his family and friends. Hopefully in the upcoming days and weeks we will learn more about these disorders he had and the TRUTH about this senseless massacre.

Ya know Dan my comment here was more or less a general statement of what we as a society will not only tolerate but financially support as it pertains to "entertainment". Over the long term, the affects of this cannot be understated. Filling people's head with this violent and gory stuff has consequences. Now I agree with you that this kid had some serious mental problems and maybe it is a stretch to suggest that the things I mentioned played a part in his actions. However it is noteworthy non the less because at the end of the day you know as well as I that politics is going to play a huge role in this and of course the anti-gun weenies are out there demanding that nobody should own an AR15 or any other "scary" looking firearm. Fact is if you have anyone who is either a complete lunatic or mentally screwed up and is hell bent on violence any weapon will do, whether it be a gun, knife, machete, base ball bat, you name it. I'll use the Mont Vernon case as an example of that.

The best that can come out of this is the recognition that anyone who shows signs of mental illness, especially with a desire for violence will be given the help they need. Furthermore we as a nation need to do some serious soul searching as to what kinds of entertainment we want available to all ages.

If Adam Lanza was armed only with a baseball bat, I don't think that the outcome would have been the same.

This post was started to express condolences for the victims of this horrible tragedy. It has served its purpose. Please don't continue to use it for political debate on the other, NON-LAKE, related issues.

If that continues, I join with others in asking the moderator to lock or delete the thread.

A lot of people together with the news media are searching for the "why"s of this tragic event and pointing fingers at the gun industry, mental health industry, entertainment industry, our culture and god knows what else. If you really want someone to "blame", blame the mother! Yes I realize she paid the ultimate price, but anyone who does not properly secure their weapons having full knowledge that a family member has some form of psychopathology is grossly negligent. What was she thinking to take him to the gun range and teaching him about the use of firearms? Mental stability should be the first pre-requisite in the acquisition and use of firearms.

Most folks commit crimes for either money, sex or drugs. We understand that. In this case, what was the motive? It certainly appears the motive was lashing out at the world and choosing unarmed innocents for some sort of revenge for his pathological perception of being grossly mistreated which is why it's so impossible for us to understand such a heinous act. I firmly believe that Mom should have known better and ultimately she bears responsibility for this horrible tragedy.
