Glad to hear that you got the films & slides when you did. Both Mr. & Mrs. Charmer are now deceased. Who knows where John's pics would have wound up. The Gravels would probably be in a lot of the films too, and I'm sure there are a lot of great shots of Sandy Point from the 60's & 70's.

Default magnum

Maybe 1300 miles round trip, about 15 miles per gallon coming back towing (probably needs bearings and tires by the look of it). Say 90 gallons of gas, $360. Night in a hotel. Lot better than Las Vegas. I'll bet it ends up in New England.

From Findlocalweater.com:

The straight line distance between Laconia and Vermilion is approximately 572 miles or 920 kilometers

Default Magnum/Don Aronow

Off to the landfill? The final resting place of so many classic boats......

I didn't know about this book, sounds like an interesting read:

The greatest legend in the history of offshore powerboats, Don Aronow is brought to vivid life in this intimate account of his amazing life. Formula, Donzi, Magnum, Squadron XII, USA Racing Team, and the most famous name in the world of high-performance boating, Cigarette, were all Don Aronow originals. His unparalleled accomplishments in the world of powerboating are insightfully described by the one who was with him nearly every step of the way — his oldest son, Michael Aronow.

Default Parks Commission Meeting

Only about 5 months to ice out. The Lakes Region Waterski Boat Classic is on the Laconia Parks Commission agenda Monday December 17th. The plan is to have the event in August at Opechee Park again. If anyone is interested in helping to organize or share ideas please pm me. Thanks and have a good holiday.

PS. My Magnum on Halloween weekend in 1987. Owned by a hockey player on one of the islands near Glendale in the late 70's/early 80's. It might be at one of the islands east of Sandy Island and Long Island. That boat was fun to drive, especially headed into the wind with a little bit of chop. CVS scans and puts pics on a disc, worked quite well.

Default wake shot

Reminds me of why we head out on the water. Won't be long now.

Found a nice picture of a Molinari tunnel hull, Italian designer who had great success with his designs in the 60's'.

Next Lakes Region Waterski Boat Classic will be on Sat. Aug. 10th 2013 from 10 to 5 at the point area of Opechee Park. More details over time. Happy holidays to all.

Default molinari tunnel

This was not mine, it was listed for sale a while ago. I have the twin to this boat in Laconia and the same vintage 140 but it doesn't look like that !! I thought I had a pic see if I can find it. Here's a nice summary of the early origins of tunnel boats:

Stay tuned for more event info. Please pm me with any suggestions and ideas
for the event.

Classic looking ski. any idea who built it?

Did you know that the guys on the west coast had no idea we actually ski raced in the east? Ever! I talked to a couple of SoCal skiers recently and they were also very surprised to hear about the resurgence of world class events on the big lake.

Default Catalina Races

The Cal race will be hard to beat! if we can pull a similar one, imagine the draw into the economy.

It was Ed Crawford's ski. From what I was told he built a bunch of custom skis in the 70s.
