Smile I believe, just rumor

sulovemycamp, I just noticed that you are fairly new to the forum and glad you have joined us. Have fun and enjoy the Winni Forum while making many new friends. By the looks of your statement, you may be the one helping it along. Just joking, but I don’t believe it is anywhere near big enough.

Hannaford is not quite correct however I believe it to be a company that buys from Hannaford but is independent and is called Shop and Save. They run a similar sale as Hannaford and carry the same products. This is considered an Agency Store. There is a simalar tore in Bristol but it is a different owner.

I also heard the Hannaford rumor. I love Hunter's but have sadly seen it go downhill recently. Prices are much higher than Harvest Market, Wolfeboro's only other grocery store.

MB has 2 basic store models. The main type is what you'd see in Rochester. But they have a scaleable smaller model - akin to Stateline in Plaistow or the Concord Storrs location. Even these smaller outlets might not scale to the Hunter footprint. Interesting to know of the local Demoulas connection. Heck, there's an alton Shop & Save/Hannoford because Mrs. Bob Behar didn't like the Wboro grocers. Maybe the Demoulases can pull rank and get a store local in spite of what their current retail models are.

If you head up to Bartlett at the Rt 16/302 split, there is a very small Grocer Called. Grant's Shop & Save. Smaller than the Hunters. On thier flyer and window it says that they proudly serve Hannaford Products

We've been sold. The owner has Grant's Supermarket in Glen at 16/302. It'll be called Hunter's Shop and Save and sell Hannaford products. We'll still be independent. Better, competitive prices. New manager is already there working with us. The change will happen April first.

This is from an employee of Hunter's.

Hope they keep the green wooden sign that's been there for decades.

Default Hunters IGA

The Hunters IGA is soon to be converted into an Independant Hannaford. We are very excited about continuing the Hunters long tradition of running this great Grocery store location.
Benefits-Hannaford private label, same low pricing as the larger Hannafords, fresh meats and PRODUCE. Great selection of any groceries available at the huge Hannaford warehouse--just ask and the soon to be Hunter's Shop N Save will get it and stock it for you. We will also continue to carry the specialty products that Hunters has been known for.
Be patient , we will be converting Hunters with Hannaford product and new pricing April 25. Please at any time let our manager and staff know of any concerns or how we can better serve you. We want to be a big part of Wolfeboro. Thanks Dan

Default Mr. Craffey

Does this mean Hunter's will only sell Hannaford brands? What about the other national, and international, brands offered in your other stores?

I'm curious about where you live. I see you didn't state a location.

I think the parking lot is too small for any major brand grocery store going in.

On a completely different note the giant Wallm*rt is attempting boutique stores. Some are already up and running in Florida and other parts of country. NO there is zero talk about one if these stores going in here.

Hannaford's did go into Meredith but they built a whole new store.

Hannaford merchandising specialist will reset the soon to be Hunter's Shop N Save, with the fastest moving most popular national, international brands and Hannafords private label. Our closest store is located in Bartlett New Hampshire. We are New Hampshire and Maine based.

Interesting that you mention Hannaford's low prices!! You must have a great sense of humor. There is another thread here that covers in great detail the fact that Hannaford DOES NOT have consistent pricing. Meredith is more expensive than Gilford/Laconia and the Ossipee store can only be classified as shameful, the prices are so inflated.

I believe that Hannaford management has conceded that they "tailor" their prices to the local market, i.e. charge as much as they can get away with. Please tell us what the Wolfeboro pricing will be? The Hunters were very fair in their pricing for the type of store they operated and you can be assured that their customers will not appreciate any manipulation of prices by Hannaford.

I'm genuinely curious, why do you think every store should charge the same prices for the same items?

Also "charging as much as you can get away with" is kind of the point of capitalism...

You can't have it both ways. In post #15 you state that you will have "....the same low pricing as the larger Hannafords....." which is a contradiction since your stores do not charge the same prices.

Yes, ypu are certainly entitled to charge as much as you want but don't tell us it's your same low price because it isn't. Why don't ypu say up front that you will "adjust" your pricing to the Wolfeboro market?

Are you in some way assuming I am associated with Hannaford's in any way?

I'm not.

For someone to state that stores will have "low pricing" does not mean that every store will have the SAME prices, it means they will have low prices relative to some unknown other "high" prices.

I hope hunter's continues to carry the more eclectic variety of goods that I appreciate. If I want to bargain shop I'll go to a store that specializes in bargains. Hunter's now carries the "IGA" brand, I assume that those items will be swapped for the "Hannaford" brand and there will still be a wide selection of other brands (national or more localized). And, clean it and stock it up the way Sally used to have it. I had been hoping for something like a fiddelheads or Trader Joe's, maybe it will be a happy medium.
