Smile Politics coming in

It sounds to me that there is more politics starting to come into the thread than concerns about the lake.

Well boys and girls if you haven't heard, Rick Santorum just bowed out. Romney is the defacto GOP nominee now. Wonder if he'll be visiting the lake this summer? He's welcome on my dock to watch the Independence Day Centre Harbor fireworks. Maybe that'll take some of the stress off the Wolfeboro residents, at least for the day.

If he shows up for the fireworks, can you please invite me, so I can explain to him that dogs shouldn't be strapped to the top of a station wagon?

I'd also like to ask him.. "If the trees are just the right height in Michigan, what do you think of the height of our trees here at Winni?"

First off, of course you're invited Steve! But, I was trying to take some of the stress off the southern residents of the lake by having him up north. If you corner him while he is here he might make an unexpected trip back to Wolfeboro and I would hate to see a barage of PT boats with bow guns blazin' to clear a path back home.

Default Presidential Aircraft

FYI!

Whatever aircraft carries President of United States, it is always known as Air Force One or Marine One.
Laconia is far too short for the usual aircraft, as we see in media
Pease would be the airport of choice. It was resurfaced just as elder Bush was becoming President. Pease has a military presence which none of us are aware the extent! And can be beefed up.

The big 747 often used as Air Force One won't be able to land at Laconia, there are too many parachutes landing there.

Actually, for the elder Bush, while Pease was used for the 747, at least one other closer to Kennebunk small airport had an interesting "presence". I used to see them when I was flying a small airplane. I would suspect Laconia would have a "presence" also if Mitt gets elected.

We went by his house by boat today and there were two MP boats out there. One was an old work type boat-big though and the other was a chaser boat. We also went to Robert's Cove to check out the loon baby but couldn't find it. The artificial nest is still there and I had said before it had a rope in place to hold it, but I think it must have an anchor. The rope must have been holding the nesting loon sign beside it. Has anyone seen any babies yet? Sorry, this is not a loon thread. Forget I asked.

I saw a motorcade blasting thru Alton on Saturday, state police cruiser, three suburbans and another St police cruiser. All had lights flashing and were traveling at a high rate of speed. Coming from W'boro. My first thought: Mitt sighting.

There's an article on this in today's New York Times:

Is the Romny house done in California?
"Plans for the expansion, first reported by Politico and later obtained by The New York Times from a rival campaign, include a split-level, four-car garage with a “car lift,” an outdoor shower, and a 3,600-square-foot basement.

A visit to the Romneys’ beachside property on Monday — one of three properties Mr. Romney and his wife, Ann, own — revealed a modest home for the wealthy enclave (at least from a street view) at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. But an official city “Notice of Application” from April 2010 highlighted the changes to come: plans to “demolish the existing residence and construct a new, approximately 8,105-square-foot, single-family residence on a 0.41 acre site.”

Here is a nice picture of Romney's summer home in California.

Where do you think he will spend his summers? The 8,105 square foot new one with automobile elevator right on the ocean or the one in NH?

No Republican will win California, so my guess would be NH.

Republicans won California from 1952 - 1988 (only exception was Goldwater).
Dems have had the state every since 1992. As the Latino population continues to grow, the state will most likely stay DEM.

The first words of that article are "Coast Guard", my old alma mater. Has the Coast Guard been on the lake? How about the Coast Guard Auxiliary, a volunteer boating safety organization? No one on the forum has mentioned this at all.

No Coast Guard boats. But maybe CG people are manning MP boats? The big boat anchored said MP on the side. The chase boat was very close and maybe tied up to the big boat and was on the land side but it also didn't look like anything I have seen on the lake. It has two big outboards on the back. Someone said today they saw the boats being hauled in which makes sense.

This might be the perfect push the Noonans need to get approval for Skydive Laconia. Hey, Mitt waterskis so why not pull a parachute after jumping out of Airforce 1?

Default Mitt at the Lake...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politi...DEW_story.html

This will be interesting. Even though I do not want him to be President, I do hope he enjoys his stay at the lake. Politics aside, he seems like a good family man.

I agree, he seems like a good family man.

You always hear on the news how stuffy he is. When he is in Wolfeboro, he is not stuffy at all. He acts just like the rest of us. He goes into the local hardware store, lumberyard, dive store. He goes to the dump since his "son's aren't always around to do it any more". He wears his old clothes just like the rest of us. No stuffy tie and suit around Wolfeboro. Most people that I know like him and Ann. They fit right in. Really.
