where is the fire?

We are in Meredith on Hubbard Cove facing Spindle Point. About 2 hrs ago we saw what looked like fog descend on the cove but then smelled a combo of burning leaves & rubber. Heard someone on a megaphone but no sirens. Only now just starting to be able to see the point.

Over at 19 mile bay heavy smoke looking towards Mt Shaw.

makes sense if it is from up north. The wind is coming from that direction, looking at my Flag. I know the fire danger is high here as well so watch those little fireworks tonight....

The wind patterns are just right today to bring in the smoke from the over 60 separate forest fires burning out of control north of Montreal.

The smoke has now reached Strafford County, and a lot of folks are calling in to their respective local fire departments.

A google search will bring up a number of news reports on the fires....

Don;t actually know if it was Rattlesnake now or not... I was watching a Chronicle article about a fire on an Island, and I thought it was Rattle snake. It was showing how and where the fire went to, and how the island was making it's comeback in vegetation etc....

We can see a lot of smoke now looking from East to West across Moose Island and can't tell what it is. It is too low and too active to be the remnants of forest fires elsewhere. Something seems to be burning now. Does anyone in West Alton know what is going on (around 6:30pm Sunday)?

particularly smoky this morning. I went out for a walk on Wyman Trail and it is quite noticeable, both the smell and the haze.

The smoke has reached the seacoast this morning. It is very hazy with a very pungent odor of burning.

The fire on Rattlesnake Island happened when my husband was a teenager. It was a devastating event, particularly because there were no fireboats back then. Hubby and his friends were out in a boat and were pressed into service, assisting the bucket brigade that was fighting that fire. He remembers it well.

As for the fires in Canada, we're likely to experience smoke for several days. It may dissipate when the winds change direction, but could easily return if the wind shifts again. Even with the sophisticated firefighting equipment of today, it will take many days to extinguish these huge fires. The firefighters being dispatched from New England states expect to be in Canada for up to 16 days.

Please pray for them, and for our Canadian neighbors whose regions are affected by the fires.

The National Weather Service said smoke from dozens of fires that are burning in southern Quebec had spread south and east across much of Maine and New Hampshire and northeast Vermont on Sunday.

The smoke had reduced the visibility to about 3 miles in places, and the smell of smoke was strong across the region. Residents from Conway to the Lakes Region have reported seeing the haze of and smelling an odor of smoke.

The weather service said northwest winds were expected to continue through Sunday night, but that they were expected to shift to the southwest on Monday afternoon and bring an end to the smoky conditions.

People with respiratory problems were being advised to limit their outdoor activities.

I just read that the National Weather Service is advising people with respiratory conditions to limit their activities today to indoors because of the poor air quality.

It's really bad here in Alton this morning. I feel like I'm breathing solids and have already hit my rescue inhaler a few times (asthma is bad today...) holy moly...

I remember we had something like this about nine years ago. The air quality was very bad because of fires in Canada. I don't remember the smell as being as strong as it is today.

I live south of Boston and the smoke has made its way down here. Not bad, just kind of like a haze hanging over. I cannot really smell smoke, but my husband gets a whiff of it every now and then.

Down here in Providence, I left work at 5:15 and immediately noticed the haze and the burning smell. Wind appears to be from the north. Could this be the Canadian fires?

I started noticing the haze and smell around mid afternoon in the South central part of Rhode Island (near Quonset). Local TV also had warnings about staying inside.
