Someone took a cold bath today in the Channel today in front of Naswa. Seems to be an annual event.

I find it amazing that a snowmobile can cross open water! How far can a sled skim on open water? What is the max weight of the machine? I heard a snowmobile skimmed for a mile and half over open water - Can this be true?

There was a story on Ch 9 in late Feb about 3 snowmobilers on Sebago Lake. They were crossing at night at approx 50 mph when they suddenly found themselves in open water. Two of them, even though they had never been "skimming",accelerated and went nearly TWO MILES through freezing open water. The third member of the party was, unfortunately, killed.I'll bet those two guys were in church on sunday.

Moose tracks --Adding to Bizer's comment's (they weren't dummies) -- Experianced sledders also know that you can outfit your machine with different "tracks" -- you can get some that are very similar to "paddles" protruding from the belt-- apply the theory of a Paddle Boat and there you go ----- well, till gravity wins!!

On the weekend of the Rotary Derby, I was watching the WCYC "Club Cam" live video of Wolfeboro Bay, when I saw a couple of sleds scream through the frame and skim the open water in front of the dock.
Later in the day, just before sunset, I saw group of three sleds pause with their headlights pointing in the direction of the cam, and figured they were checking out the spot for a skim. They took off, out of the frame, and sure enough, a minute later, they flew across the frame one at a time, and did so four or five more times. Yet another use for Web cams: Watching skimming from your kitchen -- 430 miles away...

There were a few channel skimmers Saturday. I was a little surprised to see them out this late with as much open water as there is right now.
