If it were me, I'd stay off the ice with a snowmobile. As far as skating, you'd be skating on soft ice in slush/water. So it goes for the Winter of 2009-2010.

Me thinks I would watch from the shore,it seems to be melting pretty quickly for motorized modes of transit. IMHO

Look at the ice loss off Black Cat Island taken by the Winnipesaukee Weather Cam. Almost all open water from the rocks to the shore. Won't be too long before it is open.
