XC Skiing at the Lake

Can't wait to spend a day at the lake next week to do some XC skiing. Last year, I had a great time skiing in Winter Harbor. This year, I'd like to go all the way around Rattlesnake. Does anyone know a good place to park and start from shore?
Also, any good on-shore routes with views of the lake (as opposed to trails in the woods)?
Lastly, for future trips with the family, are there any cleared skating areas?
