Default Concrete Truck Rollover

A fully loaded concrete truck apparently skidded on the snowy road surface and rolled over on Rt. 11 in West Alton this morning, just west of the Minge Cove Rd. intersection. The rear of the concrete truck landed on the cab of a pickup truck, but the driver of the pickup truck is reportedly going to be OK. Rt. 11 has been closed for hours. A large tow truck with a crane is being brought in to right the truck so the road can be reopened.

Here are two photos taken at approximately 12:00 noon:

Here are two additional photos taken at approximately 3:00 PM.

Looks as if the road is covered only where the traffic was stopped from going through. It really doesn't look as if it was slippery road conditions that helped this truck to tip over.

The accident happened around 10 AM this morning when all the roads in this area were snow-covered. By noon, when I shot my first photos, a DOT sand truck had been allowed to come close to the accident site and lay down some sand. When the accident actually occurred, Rt. 11 was likely covered with a layer of snow like all the other roads in the area. Now, as for the speed of the concrete truck, I suppose that's for law enforcement to determine.

Default Dirty Jobs

I think they are going to need Mike Rowe, it seems to me as a "Dirty Job" he serviced a concrete truck, cleaning out the dried cemment on an episode....

On the flipside I hope everyone involved is ok, with out any long term side effects

Not that it matters, but those Oshkosh front load mixers carry eleven yards of concrete. If it were full there would be a lot more on the ground.
Also important to note the safety precautions taken by the Police and Tow truck guys. They had the local utility put safety "hose" on the primary power lines (picture#3) just in case the boom of the tow truck came in contact. Nice work.

Thanks for the info, BT. "Fully loaded" was a comment made by someone at the scene from the concrete company, but it appeared that only a very small amount of concrete spilled out of the truck.

Default More Trouble on Rt 11 - LSP

From the LSP email newsletter.

"Yesterday we had our first measurable snowfall. Just a few inches. However, as usual the hill out front iced up and there were several accidents. Traffic backed up and Rte 11 was closed for a short time. A large gasoline tanker was partially jackknifed at the LSP entrance. He got somewhat straightened out but could go no further due to the ice."
