new boat

I picked up a 14 ft aluminum row boat and trolling motor (free) last year but it just sat in my yard at home. How do I go about getting it registered as I have no paperwork. I just want to use it for some fishing/trolling in some of the smaller lakes.

Hi GTO! I'd guess the best bet is to call your marina, or local boat registration place (i register my Cobalt at my local hardware store, of all places, lol!)........ Good luck, and let us know how you make out!

First tow it to Marine Patrol to get it inspected... you will need the Bill of Sale. If you got it free.. still need a Bill of Sale for a dollar.

You should be able to register it at the Marine Patrol.

I went through this last year. I had to go to Concord because I did not have a Bill of Sale when I went to Marine Patrol.. I had one by the time I got to Concord.

You need the HIN (hull id number) just like the VIN for a car, length, HP of the motor, make and year and color. You'll also need a bill of sale. Any place that regesters boats can issue you a registration. Any registration station can issue new bow numbers if needed.

That brings up a stupid question. I bought a new boat. (I haven't seen it since the test drive, last fall) What happens to my old bow numbers? The new boat will have new numbers, right? It's new, not just new to me. When the dealer resells my trade-in will the new owner have my old bow numbers?

Yes, I was told that the numbers stay with the boat, if it stays in NH. (Was told this by a boat dealer.)

still have not got it registered yet (being lazy) but I was wondering if anyone has a set of oarlocks and oars they no longer use/need?
