I hired Mosquito Squad to treat my property this season. Going to give it a try to see if it works.

My experience is that it works quite well. Both Mosquitos AND ticks.

Great news I did the 6 application plan. If it works it will be well worth the money.

Was going to check it out but wondering if it kills bees, butterflies and useful insects as well

They say it doesn’t effect bees, birds, butterflies or any wildlife. Check out their website and the local office was very helpful.

This is always the debate in my head when putting on Deet or any bug spray or spraying my yard. Do I want West Nile Virus or EEE now, or cancer from the chemicals preventing it in 15 years?

Most of the applicators containing DEET say to wash it off the skin.

Oh its definitely not good for you. I try to avoid direct skin application if I can. But not always can it be avoided.

Those thermacell portable mosquito fighters work pretty well and are suppose to be safer.

I swear by thermacells! I use one in my boat for the early morning Midge hatches that occur on the water. I have a couple at my camp also that work great against what few mosquitos we have. I also use them when we travel to the Caribbean in the winter to guard against the no seeums on the beach. Can’t say enough good about them!

Not knowingly. But history is littered with stories of things that were considered "safe" at the time and later known to be otherwise.

As another poster has noted, you are dammed if you do, and dammed if you don't. But in my way of thinking, I'll take the DEET spray to keep them away. Carpet bombing the whole area and potentially killing beneficial insects doesn't seem to be the way to go. Not to mention shoveling against the tide. We do live in thousands of acres of woods.

What do they do?

Other than treat standing water.

They treat all around the property including around the outside of the home, wooded areas, grass, scrubs etc.

Price is based on the size of your property and the areas that need to be treated

I was wondering what the travel patterns are of mosquitoes? Do they stay near where they were spawned? Do they just travel aimlessly, great distances, looking for that blood supply? Males and females may have different patterns.

It would seem that treating my place would be of little benefit if my neighbors don't do the same.

Where I am, it's the worst I've seen in a long time.

Mosquito control companies use a natural product such as Essentria which has Rosemary oil, Geraniol, and peppermint oil..safe around water, docks and fish...creates a barrier while providing knockdown power...works really well...

You can repel/kill with an application of permethrin. There are folks in upper midwest who spray their fishing boats interior with it. Skeeters are a far bigger deal up there than around here.
