Sailboats?
My nephew wants to sail Winnipesaukee.
He asked me a few questions that I wasn't to sure of. So, I thought I'd ask the forum. He has a 16 foot sailboat. Registered in Conn. Will he have to register in New Hampshire or is his registration OK? Is there a sticker he has to get? (User Fee) If he puts a small 2-3 hp gas motor on it will he have any different registration requirments? He was also wondering about an electric motor. What would be the safety regulations for a sailboat. The gas or electic motor will only be used in narrow areas etc. He only plans on a weekend. Not a very long stay. Thanks to anyone for a reply. New Hampshire recognizes boats that are registered in other state for up to 30 days here on NH inland lakes. Sailboats under NH registry that are 12'0" or longer need to be registered. If a sailboat has any electric or gasline motor, it needs to be registered, regardless of length.

I would advise your son to bring the gas motor if he is going to sail any distance (further than he can swim or paddle) from shore. Things change quickly out there. That being said, he'll have a great time out there, I love sailing on Winnipesaukee. Last edited by webmaster; 09-07-2005 at 06:37 AM. |

Thanks for the help, Fatlazyless and ITD.
We still have a question about a NH User Fee Sticker, will he need to get one? Also is the safety equipment required the same a power boats? He wants to make sure he's doing everything the law requires. Your help makes things a lot easier and a safer! Thanks CEP |
