Antiques
There a benefit of registering a vehicle as an antique? More suitably, a motorcycle? I'm getting the run around at town hall.
I was going to register my bike as antique, but they're shipping me to Concord. Between taking a day out of work, driving my truck all the way up there, standing there with my thumb up my butt, and driving back, it'd make more sense to just register it normally. Like anything else the .gov instituted, it seems the hoops they have in place supersede the benefits. |

The only thing I know is if you register as an antique, it doesn't have to be inspected.

Depends on how old. Up to 40 years old still requires annual inspections. More than 40 requires an inspection every 2 years. And the inspection month is April, not your birthday month. Older than 1949 does not require inspections.

I have a 44 year old car and I drive it every day I can in the summer. I did not get antique plates because (according to the NH DMV Site)
>>>>> Vintage Plates in New Hampshire If you have a historic car, truck, motorcycle, or trailer, you can get an antique plate from the NH DMV. Street rod plates are also available. Antique plates can be issued to vehicles: More than 25 years old. Used ONLY for exhibitions, club events, and public events. Street Rod plates are issued for vehicles that have been certified as street rods by the state police. To learn more about fees for antique and street rod plates, contact the NH DMV: By e-mail: NH.DMVHelp@dos.nh.gov By phone: (603) 227-4000. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Yep, I'm going register it on the street regularly. I am going to ask about OHRV antique plates though. That might be like an antique sled where you register once and its done.

I'm guessing an OHRV tag might be an issue cruising on the roads. Can't be that much to register the bike. Is it the inspection that's the issue? IMO I would rather get whatever needed to be done to be safe. FWIW I don't need to worry about emission test because of the age, might be the same for you if that's the concern. Good luck.

I think I'm all good. I got regular plates for the street. I mailed in my application for antique OHRV plates though. Its a dual sport so I'd need both. Antique OHRV is a one time registration as long as the bike remains in my name. $55

I had antique plates for my bike and now have them for my 89 Mitsu Starion. Much cheaper than normal registrations and the only thing they ask you when you register it (which has to be done in person in Concord the first time but anywhere like normal renewals after that) is if the car is in "parade ready condition," no mention of mileage or usage restrictions. Even if it's written that way, chances are they won't hassle you about using it for daily driving duties unless you are doing something to warrant them pulling you over.
