8:30 PM. Just started raining in Gilford. The radar looks like some pretty heavy rain coming up soon.

I saw it coming across the lake then looked on my radar and realized it would be intense. Winds hit 35 mph here on Welch with heavy rain… not over yet…

It can be a frightening event to be on the Broads when one of these pops up,,,

Same. Boat was tied for a calm lake. Rocked and lifted the dock. Very stressful times.

I intended to cover only the helm of my boat using my super duper Walmart back packer tarp (hi FLL) to save me the five million snaps that the full covers require.
The heat must have fried my brain because I instinctively put on all the canvas. I am sure glad I did! |

It wasn't predicted in the morning but by early afternoon it was showing on my weather service. Their future radar had large yellow/orange cells moving through the area. We were out (6:30pm) for ice cream with our church group (almost 30 people) and most were not aware when I told them. It was due to hit around 8pm and I was watching the clock to get home before it started. When people started to see lightning in the distance, the group left pretty quickly.
The funny thing is, we were supposed to get about a half inch of rain in Center Harbor and instead the storm seemed to split around us, going north and south. We got a little rain but nowhere near the predicted amount. No real loud (close) thunder. |

Our rain gage in M'boro showed 3/4" from the storm last night. It was a swiss cheese storm, hit or miss. This one should help the rest of the blueberries ripen big.

Watched it come across Winnisquam - it was very windy, some of the biggest breakers I've seen on that lake with lot's of lightning to the west. I told my neighbor it reminded me of a storm you'd see out in the flat midwest.

I arrived up here just as the stormed rolled in last night, I stayed down by the LI Bridge for a little bit, and watch the waves come in... The boats where really rocking... Of course while all this is going on, what do I see but a boat headed out into the broads!!!!!!! I hope they made it alright where ever they where going.....
With that said, and reading on of the posts in this thread. Once the lightening hits it is time to get to a dock, any dock, don't screw around. Most people that I know on the lake, aren't going to be to upset if they have a space open on their dock, if someone comes and ties up to wait out a intense storm. And before you go and say, well that is easy to say.... I have been caught out in a couple of storms. I have pulled into strangers docks, even got to have Hot Chocolate and Donuts with a nice older couple during one of the events..... Like wise I would not turn anyone away during a storm....

We went to Canoe yesterday afternoon to have dinner by boat. I had no idea it was going to storm. We just made it back in Lakeport at 8:05! Had to run to close the roof of the Ford Bronco! Next time, I will pay attention to the weather!
