That would look great on the back of a pontoon!

It's surely not being marketed to toon buyers, but there are toons on the lake with 5.7 liter V8 power already. Just not outboards. Also, I'm fairly certain that Yamaha 5.3 liter V8 outboards (800+ pounds) have been successfully mated to toons for a few years now.

I like two strokes better that four strokes. I'd love to see Evinrude tack a couple of cylinders onto their 3.4 liter, 300HP V6 outboard and make a 4.6 liter 400HP V8. Considering the 300 HP only weighs 530 lbs or so, a 400 HP variant should not weigh much more than 650 lbs. If there's room to increase the bore, they could probably make a 450 HP 5.x liter V8 that does not weigh much more than the smaller V8.

At 1000lbs that is one heavy motor. Could a toon handle the weight, sure as long as it is designed for it. That is the piece that has to be understood. if the mounting platform can handle the weight and the torque of the engine then everything is fine. Oh yes one other piece the boat has to be able to counter the wieght. On the other side of the equation does a toon really need 557 h.p. engine with 550 lbft of torque? My guess is probably not.
Yamaha, V8 beast on produces 350 hp... I didn't see a torque spec but I am sure it is considerably less as well. Its like comparing apples to oranges. While the Yamaha engine may be a nice fit for some pontoons, this beast, well may just be over kill... On the other hand it would sure be cool to sea and watch.....

Nice video on YouTube of the new Seven Marine 557 outboard....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZaQgQIUt8w. There are a few others as well but this one seems to be the most comprehensive.
