Hunting for a bargain on Lake Winnipesaukee?
I will preface this by saying that I have no association with any person/company mentioned in this article. I just thought that those that do not read this particular newspaper might be interested in watching the show.
...an upcoming episode (of HGTV is the show "Lakefront Bargain Hunt.") will feature a couple from western New Hampshire hunting for a bargain on Lake Winnipesaukee. Having grown up vacationing on the lake and after years of renting or staying with friends, they finally decide to find a lake house of their own. In their search they are assisted by local real estate agent Kevin Shaw of Roche Realty Group, who helps them find lakefront living within their budget of $375,000. The episode airs on HGTV this Sunday, June 19, and again on Monday, June 20 and July 4. The premise of HGTV's Lakefront Bargain Hunt is that anyone can live on a lake. But what about those with substantially less than the $375,000 budget featured on the Lake Winnipesaukee episode? Full story at http://www.laconiadailysun.com/opini...t-bargain-hunt |

Thank you for posting this.
I do view HGTV probably more then most. Entertainment. These reality type shows can be entertaining. But most of the shows are pure bunk. Flip or Flop. Property Brothers. House Hunters International, etc. Yes, these are real people and not actors. The repair ones like the one in Waco Texas - well I just want to scream at them. For mistakes or overlooked items. All of the shows are neatly edited. All will have one issue. And finally, the repair ones seem to have contractors with nothing to do but show up immediately to rehab some house in 14 days. All bunk. Ah, but entertaining though. |

Reality TV is an oxymoron...but everyone knows that.

Built a condo cottage in New Seabury on Cape Cod in the 80's. Yes we owned the cottage which was part of a condo. Gave building to the YMCA and built new. Lots of fun and we actually made a few bucks after renting for 2 years.
We have renovated 8 kitchens over the years. No walk through estimates. At this point I can give an estimate by looking and knowing what someone wants for cabinets, floors, appliances. Our last renovation with complete gutting was $78,000 which also included flooring in the laundry and adjoining powder room with new cherry vanity. Cherry wood cabinets with large crown moulding $25,000, construction $25,000 and appliances $28,000. New wiring plumbing and lighting fixtures included. My best part of the kitchen is the warming drawer, induction cooktop, Sub-Zero fridge and double oven. Wine cooler is also a nice addition. It's only money and I've never seen anyone take it with them. Well, maybe the guy wo was buried in his Corvette. Phil |

Seemed like a little bait and switch as the first two houses they looked at were on two other smaller lakes but the third one was on Winni and they selected that one. Great shots in the thirty minutes of the lake and a lot in Meredith

I caught the show last night by chance. Some great local footage of the lakes region.
Tough location to buy at, that house is right behind Gilford Yacht Club in the back of Smith Cove. Very tight area and lots of milfoil. No swimming in front of that house.... I am surprised they didn't look at any island properties, for the price range they were in they could have done well on an island. I guess its not for everyone. |

Fake Reality!
Quote:
If you enjoy watching these shows (as we do!) look for these clues next time... 1. One of the houses may come "furnished"... Hmmm... and "It's just our style hon!" 2. Notice when they end the show, (and fast forwarding to "two months later...") somehow the season hasn't changed... We saw a Lakefront Bargain Hunt episode in Upstate NY recently. When they were shopping for the house it was fall, the leaves had turned and most had fallen. Then "two months later..." guess what? Same leaves, same trees. They should have been ice skating "two months later..."! 3. It's amazing that the kids will be wearing the same clothes "two months later..."as they had on when their 'rents shopped for the house! I guess even with the cost of a "Bargain" house there's no money left for new clothes for Junior! Nothing like good old "reality" TV! --Steve |

It's real TV
You all act as if other TV shows are a true depiction of life as it really occurs. I can't name three shows that aren't scripted and news that isn't selectively edited.

Hmmmmmmmm
Now I am confused.
I always thought that if you see on "reality TV" or you read it on the internet, then it absolutely must be true! This revelation that this may not be the case is totally upsetting to me.

My kid is filming for Flea Market Flip in a couple weeks. I'll report back on the "reality" of it.

Real or fake...who cares!
Real or fake...who cares! It's just TV!
I would watch it only to see our beautiful lake! It's always fun to see something you know on TV, right? Does anyone know if there may be a repeat so I can catch it as I missed the first airing...

For the boat?
Now I'll have to find room in the bilge for an auxiliary holding tank.

Thanks! Looks like I'll have to set the DVR as I won't have TV access at that time!
