For people who have installed the wire type invisible fence how did you handle the waterfront? I am thinking I have 2 options since it needs to be a complete loop of wire in order to work. Run it in kind of a U-shape where I turn around at the waterfront or a few ft out and double back or just do a complete loop and let it sit on the bottom. That seems easier but I worry that by letting it sit on bottom it will end up getting hooked by passing fisherman. Not worried about dogs swimming out and around if I do the U as their not big swimmers. Its more for keeping them in yard.

You may want to check out the Halo collar as another option if the fixed wire approach does not work out. Works great and VERY flexible in terms of setting up different adjustable geo fences.

The Halo collar is great but I already have the wired version with all the collars for 3 dogs at my primary home. I can buy the receiver and wire and run it myself for a few hundred bucks and no monthly monitor fees vs 1500 for 3 collars and 27/month to monitor. I did go to the Halo site and wow prices have come down. When i first checked out GPS collars a few years ago they were over 2k. for 1 dog If I did not already have the collars I would definitely go GPS

We have used Petsafe radio collar. Worked great and is portable. (We used to take it camping for our lab).
Highly recommended and no digging. Covers 1/2 acre radius. IIRC $200-$300 range. |

You can either make a big loop in the water or what I did is once it was in the water just double it back. The problem with looping it around is your pup could get zapped if you go over it while they are in the boat with you…

And here I thought nobody on Welch had any dog fencing. No special training but ours rarely left the yard except to go into the woods when they needed privacy. One used to sneak onto the boat for a nap to be sure nobody went for a boat ride without her.
