Fishing for trout and salmon is always good after ice out as the fish are shallow and nearer the surface. A good bet with live smelt dangled temptingly from a bridge or shore! They will take cast lures as well! Later in the season they dive deeper to the thermocline but that doesn’t happen until the water has warmed significantly.
