two errors on my part:
1) $20 per kayak. We had two, but the price was too high. If they want to break a record, make the donation voluntary.
2) They didn't list the time of the event. We went to watch, and by the time we got there, it was all over.
Sorry to say, this was not how to run an event if they were serious about breaking a record.
