There's no surprise here. Society in general "has much more drama than in the past and often loses its way." Forums are a microcosm of society, with the emotion intensified by the freedom to break social rules under cover of anonymity. Failing to come to people's defense when something like bullying (or murders, robberies, etc.) happens is also a known social tendency. That strategy eventually backfires because it gives license to aggressive people and then things fall apart. All lamentable, but pervasive. You would think it would be possible for a small group of people in a forum to agree on a code of conduct and follow it. But the difficulty of even two people to coexist peacefully shows that relationships are conflict by nature.
