Default FREE: Fishing Forum/Tips meeting at Fishing Derby

On Friday, February 9th, from 7pm to 9pm, there will be an open forum/panel discussion hosted by NH Fish & Game and the Meredith Rotary, at the Inn at Mill Falls. This will be a FREE event, on a first-come, first-seated basis with room for about 60 participants. There will be three speakers at the forum, including:

John Viar:
John is a Biologist with the NH Fish and Game Department, Region 2. He has had ice fishing fever for over 25 years now. He will discuss one of New Hampshire's and Lake Winnipesaukee's most unique and misunderstood species pursued by ice anglers, the cusk. Cusk life history, tackle and techniques, and many common regulation questions, such as the definition of "cusk fishing devices" and night fishing, will be addressed.

Alan Nute:
Alan Nute is the owner of A.J.'s Bait and Tackle Shop in Meredith, New Hampshire. He has owned AJ’s for 10 years and has been in the retail fishing business for 30 years. During this time, AJ has been providing advice on all types of fishing from his own experience. He started to fish at the age of 4 years old with his Uncle. They fished everywhere! As AJ got older he concentrated on the lakes located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, mainly due to the great fishery we have in our own backyard. At the seminar AJ will give tips on techniques, equipment, and the bait used for fishing rainbows through the ice, in hopes of helping someone catch the trophy rainbow during the Meredith Rotary Fishing Derby.

Patrick Nealon:
Patrick Nealon has guiding hunters and anglers in the Lakes Region for six years. Flyfishing the local streams and rivers for trout and salmon........bass fishing the local small lakes and ponds with kayaks and canoes.......and ice fishing! ! Patrick is the fishing guide for The Inns and Spa at Mill Falls and guides an average of 20 ice fishing trips per season. He has operated heated bob houses equipped with cook stoves on Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Wicwas, Lake Waukewan, Pemmigewasset Lake, Lake Winona, and Little Squam Lake. Rainbow trout are the most sought after species during the ice fishing season but Patrick also targets lake trout in Lake Winnipesaukee.
