The police are not required to give you any days to get you car inspected once you have passed the period when one is required by law. A first citation does not keep you from getting a second or third citation. If you continue to drive the uninspected vehicle you could get a second ticket 5 minutes down the road.
You may get some leniency in the court on the dispensation of subsequent tickets but that is not the job of the police. A continuing violation is a continuing violation.
