Because, and this is the most essential part for the Lakes Region, if you choose an MVNO or lower-tier plan, you will be deprioritized during busy times. That's why there are so many complaints from Verizon users in the first place.

I'm willing to pay a bit more to get perfect service all the time, especially as, by doing so, I don't have to pay Internet for the 6 months we use camp AND get free streaming services year-round.

So my $145/mth. is really $85/mth. when pulling out the $360 for Internet at camp (6 months @ $60, though it's probably more with installation/cancellation/equipment fees, etc.) and $360 for Netflix and Apple TV...AND I get first class service all year with the ability to get a new phone every two.
