House boats are not illegal on the lake. There are many live aboard boats located all around the lake. A houseboat is just a different style of live aboard boat.

I'm guessing we don't see a lot of houseboats on the lake due to the issue of what to do with them in the winter..... They're quite big to keep hauling in and out of the water each year, and the costs may be too prohibitive.
