I've been here my whole life and lived here full-time for the past 5. If not the worst in my memory, it is in the top 3. While there have been many times that it's been as windy or worse, this time it was the sustained, never-ending, gusts that took a toll.

Yes, the wind could have done what you describe. I was checking our boats hourly, and I think if we hadn't retied one of them several times, we would have lost it. Being on the east end of a long reach, we had consistent 3-foot+ rollers coming at us for more than 2 days.
