A lot of the new ones either can be set up web enabled or use a plug-in called Drone Mobile. You can use your normal key for lock and unlock, but start the car with the web app. My wife works in a hospital and can start her car from inside, well out of range of a remote.
As long as you pick a responsible installer I wouldn't worry about it. Avoid Best Buy. There is a guy in Somersworth, NH that has a shop but also does mobile installs- Chris at Speed of Sound. He does all of my car work. He has also come up to Gilford to do boat stereos for me before.
