From observation ..... eagles do not float .... so it would sink if it stopped stroking the water with its wings. They seem to have no problem with breaking through very thin or slushy ice and falling into the icy cold water.
A mallard duck or a Canada goose will float with ease, while a crow or an eagle are not natural floaters, and will sink.
For people, anyone know what's the body mass index number where one goes from being a floater to a sinker? With a bmi of 20, you will be a sinker ... with a bmi of 30, you will be a floater ..... so, maybe it's bmi-25 that is borderline?
