The three lanes being changed to one lane situation at Hampton is not new. It is always done both north and south when there is an expected large volume of traffic such as Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc.
Unfortunately, the majority of people don't have the EZ Pass transponders so in order to move the most traffic possible they have to change 2 of them to both cash and EZ Pass. I've always thought that the placement of the EZ Pass lanes at Hampton was ridiculous. It should be either far left or far right. It never ceases to amaze me how people just don't pay attention to the purple "EZ Pass ONLY No Cash" signs and don't even realize it until they are sitting in the toll booth looking for an attendant!!
