This is just my opinion but it's probably the very loud noises like a pounding hammer or gunfire that has a percussion effect within one's ears that lead to tinnitus later on in life as opposed to loud motorboats out some distance on the lake.

Just found information on "Eagle Syndrome".

Have you asked your doctor (or dentist) about ths?

I think it's named for its X-ray appearance.
