I have been using lake water in a hot tub for 20 years. I did buy a sediment filter at Lowe's that I put on the garden hose when I fill the hot tub. It makes it just a little cleaner when it goes in.

Once the chlorine does it's thing, usually overnight, the water looks great and tests great. It is surprising how clear it gets.
