I just tried pronouncing "Midge" out loud—then dropped the M and pronounced "idge".
The difference is slight, but there seems to be a nasal "n" suggested in Midge. I wonder if the original name
was Midge, but when spoken, the spelling got corrupted? (Like Mumbai from Bombay, and Beiping from Peiping).
