I would go Sunday to Thursday. The boating in that time-frame is more sane.

The last time the fourth fell on a Wednesday, we went up just for the 4th and 5th. We went to the Wolfeboro fireworks by boat. My most fervent advice would be to stay put at the end of the fireworks if you go by boat...we left with the crowd and it was absolutely insane.
