Regarding the first generation Honda CRV's ('98-'01):
I had four of them.
The first was bought new in '99.
It was my wife's daily driver but was wrecked BIG TIME by a drunk driver.
Wifey was well protected by the car and it was repaired.
After a three tear tour of duty as our Florida car it became my daily driver.
At 91k miles it became my youngest son's daily driver.
He got it up to 146k and moved on to a '14 Forester (176k) which fit his 6'2" frame better.
A year later the Forester had a head gasket failure that placed it in the category of "no economic repair".
He called the guy who now owns the old '99 CRV but was told it's not for sale.
In addition to possible undercarriage rust due to years spent in NH, the first gen CRV's were prone to valve clearance tightening which, if left too long can burn valve seats and require expensive repairs.
An erratic idle of stalling at idle can indicate that issue.
I had blue, silver, red and green.
Silver is the fastest color!
