I have heard that too. I believe that is true. If you were building a house on a divided lot you might be able to design it so the the front door is in the town with the lowest tax rate.
I believe that when the Walmart in Laconia was expanded and took over the space next door the movement of the front door to it's current location changed the jurisdiction to Gilford for tax purposes as well as town services.
