Many years ago at the start of my career I used to repair Garrard turntables. 99% of the time they just needed a cleaning to replace some grease that would harden over time causing the mechanism to jam.

You weren't paying for the 30 seconds of his work, but for his many years of experience to know precisely where to "tap...tap...tap"!

Rich, thanks for responding. The turntable is only a few years old. It was damaged in transit when I moved. The cartridge had been knocked out and a wire broken. Probably more that I’m not aware of.
