Default Permits for Everyone!

Welcome to the People's Republic of New Hampshire!
Might as well call it Lake Massachusetts!

Permits are absolutely required to construct, repair, or demolish a pier, dock, or float. After submitting your permit application to the local Conservation Commission, they forward it to the State environmental folks with their recommendation. If approved by the state, you then apply for a local building permit. If approved by the local building inspector, you are issued a permit.

Or, you can do what many waterfront folks do (provided you are on good terms with your neighbors): just discreetly do the work ..... be quick, clean, considerate, and quiet about it. But, don't expect this method to work for something obvious; like re-roofing your boat-house.
